Who would have guessed back in the ’90s that chain carousels would once again be among the most popular rides? Ever since Alexander Goetzke brought the Starflyer to the Wiesn in 2005, it seems obvious: All these years, the crowd wanted to ride a chain carousel—but please, at a height of 50 meters. In 2012, the Starflyer was converted into Alex’s Airport with an aviation theme. It was replaced in 2017 by a new structure with the linguistically questionable name Jules Verne Tower.

Enthusiasm for this type of ride remains undiminished, so showman Alexander Goetzke is taking it up a notch and now has the gondola star hoisted not just to a height of 55 meters, but all the way up to 80 meters. The gondolas themselves spin around the tower at speeds of up to 65 km/h. Whether one can enjoy the view over the rooftops of Munich under these conditions is certainly a very individual matter that depends on one’s personal constitution.

The minimum height for riders is 1.10 meters.

With the Bayerntower, another high-chain carousel has been in operation since 2019.
