Café Theres (Café Mohrenkopf)

Café Theres, known as Café Mohrenkopf until 2022, is the oldest café tent at the Oktoberfest. The Wiemes family received its Oktoberfest lot in 1950 for the first time as a remedy for the war damage at their café – and they have kept it to this day. Even after renewing the tent in 2008, it still kept its identity and is significantly calmer than Café Kaiserschmarrn, for example.

As is known from other café tents, it's not limited to breakfast, café and cake, which are prepared on-site, but also offers wine and cocktails at night. The former name Mohrenkopf refers to a marshmallow-like but much creamier sweet coated with chocolate.

After the façade was repainted and the café was renamed in 2022, the interior followed suit in 2023. The new mural depicts the English Garden. In 2026, the street-facing counter will be extended.

After a two-year interlude by Josef Sperl, hostess Katharina Wiemes was supported by Augustiner am Platzl 's Oliver Wendel in 2025. However, he is already stepping down after only one year – to make way for Lena Eckert, daughter of Pfanni heir and Werksviertel mogul Werner Eckart. The plan is apparently for her to take over the tent completely together with her sisters at a later stage.

Music is provided daily at Café Theres from 6 p.m. by the Monaco Allstars in the form of the party repertoire familiar from the small tents. Since 2025, the tent has also been filled with music from Friday to Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. In 2026, there will be music every day starting at 2 p.m., and from Thursdays to Sundays even at 10 am. As the selection of bands is quite diverse, we recommend that you check the daily programme. However, the Thursday and Friday timings will still have to be aligned with the city's regulations.
